Far too much great new info to concentrate on the fact Alison is bi in isolation. It's a great read and that would be missing the rest.

You get a much better feel for how she is with herself these days - in some ways more confident than ever and in other ways still happy to dive, er, head first into a style or new sound. Fantastic to read phrases like "we had our introverted moment and we wanted to get out and punch the air". They've lost none of their love of making music, that's for sure. When she talks about the oldies you can hear that magical thing that music does for people absolutely evident.

My overriding thought is simply "good for her". There are a lot of people who would be happy to be comfortable enough in their skin to laud the things going well and highlight the dislikes she has in herself too. Props to her.

Yeah, a great read - nice share, Sparky.

I guess it's like she says in that (as before) - it's one thing being Alison and another thing performing on stage as Goldfrapp. The latter must be quite a nice shield to have when up there in front of everybody.

Yes I hope I haven't deprived them of any sales. It is a great mag if you want to step out of the world of Beyonce and X Factor and find something different, classic or cool. They're independent, so you wont get stuff like Leona Lewis forced down your neck. Opinionated, rock-oriented and still with GaGa on their radar. With FREE CDs!!!!

As for Alison, I get a real sense of happiness from the interview and the Head First Era. I get the album artwork now.... it's the Lurve Album.

fuck that's easy to figure .. I have zero confidence but I've done performance things where I sat naked infront of a crowd you just go into a bubble it's not you doing those things ....

yeah every artist I know will say they have no self confidence if they don't they're arrogant .....

Thumbs down

Spare us. Answers like this only make gays and lesbians look bad. Being gay is not a choice, Allison. Because you can't confess to the world that you are a lesbian you've just made the gay populace look bad and you've cheapened yourself with a reply like this. You were my favorite artist of all time, but I'm having a hard time swallowing this rubbish.

Good god, just how close-minded are you? You do realize that bisexuals actually exist, right?

Thank you!

I did that, and read it. Great interview!

Labelling: there used to be a slogan "label jars not people". I used to know a gay guy in a wheelchair who had that on one of his T-shirts.

"Excuse me! I always wear knickers, thank you very much." Well said, Alison.

Bi-phobia is hugely problematic, and gives "us gays and lesbians" a really bad name (albeit often deserved.)

Although, I believe Alison's response might be more about being pomosexual, and I'm not sure she'd wear the "bi" label any more comfortably than the "dyke" label. Not sure.

Just to say, yes, for fuck sake, let's move beyond a binary approach -- to people, to gender, to orientation . . .

Which is why I love the word queer. Cuz you can be bi and queer. Dyke and queer. Gay and queer. Straight and queer.

Queer is good. Everyone should be queer. And Alison is definitely queer, even with her longterm men.

I call my oven queer, because it sounds like a Transformer when you open and close the grill covering.

In other news, Britanni Johnson has made me straight.
